Calendula Officinalis is the star ingredient in Jurlique’s groundbreaking sensitive skin range, Calendula Redness Rescue.

Also known as the Marigold, Calendula is a member of the daisy family, Asteracae. An annual plant that reaches one metre in height, Calendula grows well in the Australian spring and summer and is particularly suited to growing in the climate of the Adelaide Hills.

Thought to have originated in southern Europe, the Calendula likes a sunny location and tolerates most soils. A favourite among gardeners, the Calendula’s distinctive flowers, ranging in colour from pastel yellow to deep orange (thanks to high levels of antioxidants, including carotenoids) are a common sight in flower gardens around the globe.

AN IMPRESSIVE HISTORY
Calendula has made itself extremely useful for thousands of years. It has been used to dye fabric and even hair; it has worked its way into cooking (and looks especially pretty when its petals are sprinkled on summer salads); it has even starred as an ingredient in love potions.

According to Jurlique Ultimate Beauty Expert Rebecca Nicholls “Calendula is known to help soothe and calm most major skin sensitivities,” she explains.

WE GROW SUPERIOR CALENDULA
The harvest of this bloom begins around the last week in December and continues over the next three months. Our Calendula crop consists of thousands of plants.

Our biodynamic* growing method allows a more potent plant extract and offers greater efficacy as compared to most commercial versions offered by other raw material suppliers.**

CALENDULA SOOTHES SENSITIVE SKIN
“The key activity of Calendula extract is found in the flavonoids, a plant-based antioxidant that protects the body against environmental aggressors” says Rebecca. “Calendula extract is also rich in oleanolic acid which helps with skin soothing and calming.”

Potent Calendula extract has been deployed in our range of products formulated for sensitive skin, comprising a serum, moisturiser and mist.
